UPS delivers 375,000 extremely sensitive vaccines from the U.S. to Asia – with only six days to plan.
There’s no doubt that we picked the right partner in UPS. We were getting emails all along the way, showing us the progress of the shipment. There were lots of tears here when we saw that the vaccines had arrived safely and on time. We watched two years of hard work becoming reality.

When flu season was approaching in Southeast Asia, thousands of pregnant mothers were at risk of losing their unborn babies. UPS was tasked with shipping 375,000 doses of flu vaccines from the U.S. to Asia – with less than a week to figure out how.
UPS understands that being pregnant is one of the most magical times in a woman’s life. And that this should hold true no matter where they live.
But with flu season rapidly approaching in Southeast Asia, and many soon-to-be mothers not being properly immunised, pregnant women were at risk of losing their unborn children.
UPS was asked to ship 375,000 doses of donated flu vaccines from the U.S. to Laos. With less than a week to plan, UPS got to work immediately.
The vaccines had to travel 9,000 miles from the U.S. to Laos, across two continents and over five stops, all the while being kept at a very strict temperature range of 2˚C to 8˚C – otherwise the vaccines would spoil and become ineffective.
In total, almost fifty employees from the UPS healthcare staff, UPS Airlines, freight forwarding and brokerage in the U.S. and Asia worked together to ensure that the vaccines arrived safely and on time. “This was the chance to help thousands of pregnant women stay well and deliver healthy babies”, says Margaret Clayton, International Account Manager Healthcare for UPS. “So the day the vaccines arrived, we were overjoyed.”
